All of the blog posts on this website are written with the following information in mind. This is a "living" web page. It will be updated as events progress.


1948 - ISRAEL REBORN
Event: After several centuries of exile, Israel is reborn as a country. 
Significance: The Bible predicts that after a period of long exile, all of the Jews will be regathered back to the land, immediately prior to the end times. Ezekiel 38-39 describes a major attack on a regathered Israel by a northern foe, whom God violently defeats for the whole world to see. 
Who has ever heard of such things?
     Who has ever seen things like this?
Can a country be born in a day
     or a nation be brought forth in a moment?
Yet no sooner is Zion in labor
    than she gives birth to her children. (Isaiah 66:8a NIV)
"...a land that has recovered from war, whose people were gathered from many nations to the mountains of Israel, which had long been desolate. They had been brought out from the nations, and now all of them live in safety." (Ezekiel 38:8b, NIV)
1957 - ROMAN EMPIRE REBORN
Event: The European Economic Community (EEC) is founded with the Treaty of Rome. This organization eventually became, through a variety of treaties, what the European Union is today. The EU now has some features of statehood, including one currency, border free travel, a Commission that proposes laws, and a Parliament. 
Significance: Daniel 2 & 7 talks both about four empires that will rise to power one after another. Bible scholars are in general agreement that the fourth kingdom is the Roman Empire. However, Daniel 7 says that the Messiah will come on the clouds of heaven, destroy the fourth kingdom and set up an eternal empire. Since Christ destroys the Roman Empire at the Second Coming, it is required for the old Roman Empire to come back into existence, prior to the Second Coming.

1995 - 10 HORNS OF THE BEAST
Event: Greece becomes 10th member of the military alliance called the "Western European Union." This alliance was separate from the European Union, but worked closely with it. The EU used this organization to perform certain military operations. 
Significance: The Bible predicts that a group of ten kings will be part of the end times Roman Empire. In the Bible, the ten kings are represented as ten horns on the head of a beast. Many Bible teachers have expected this group of ten kings to be a confederacy of ten nations in the area of the old Roman Empire.

1998 - DOCUMENT 666
Event: Document 666 at the Vienna European Council recommends the creation of a new position, called the EU "High Representative." In June 1999, Javier Solana was appointed to be the new EU High Representative. He was also made the Secretary General of the 10-nation Western European Union. These positions didn't have much legal power, but relied on the influence of the officeholder.
Significance: The Bible describes a little horn that comes up among the ten horns of the beast. This is later interpreted by the angel as a king who comes after the original ten. The fact that he starts as a "little" horn indicates that he starts off not as powerful as his comrades. Since Javier Solana was appointed after the original ten nation alliance was in place, and had less power than them, it strongly fits the image of a little horn rising up among ten larger horns.
"While I was thinking about the horns, there before me was another horn, a little one, which came up among them; and three of the first horns were uprooted before it." (Daniel 7:8a, NIV)
2000 - RECOMMENDATION 666
Event: Recommendation 666 proposes that the 10-nation WEU military functions be transferred to a newly created EU committee, under the leadership of Javier Solana.  
Significance: The Bible states that the ten kings have one purpose, and give their authority to the beast. The "beast" is a term that can refer interchangeably to the Antichrist or his kingdom. Recommendation 666 proposed that Solana be given the ability to chair the Political and Security Committee, which directs "crisis management" military operations.
"The ten horns which you saw are ten kings who have not yet received a kingdom, but they receive authority as kings with the beast for one hour. These have one purpose, and they give their power and authority to the beast." (Revelation 17:12-13, NIV)

2006 - SOLANA SUBDUES THREE KINGS
Event: Solana overcomes the EU3 and becomes the face of the EU in the Iran negotiations. On 06/06/06, Solana was seen across major news outlets presenting a deal to the Iranians that they could potentially accept.

Significance:  The EU3 (United Kingdom, France, and Germany) originally left Solana behind and completely disregarded him, trying to dictate EU foreign policy on their own. Initially, they were accused of a power grab, which upset other EU member countries. Shortly thereafter, Solana was included in the negotiations. Over time, Solana began working with the EU3, and gradually became leader of the group. He eventually became the face and voice of the EU to the world on the Iran situation.
"During his time in office, Solana established himself as a key negotiator and speaker for the EU on the subject of Iran's nuclear capabilities." - Der Spiegel 
As for the ten horns, out of this kingdom ten kings will arise; and another will arise after them, and he will be different from the previous ones and will subdue three kings. (Daniel 7:24, NIV)
While I was thinking about the horns, there before me was another horn, a little one, which came up among them; and three of the first horns were uprooted before it. (Daniel 7:8a, NIV, emphasis added)
"But in the original text, it is not nearly so violent. It expresses, rather, a pushing out, as if three are growing, and as one comes up, it just gradually squeezes its way through until it becomes prominent. It actually refers to a gradual replacement as the new pushes out the old, and the old gradually fades away. It is not a catastrophe. It is progressive." - John MacArthur, 1980
2007 - 7-YEAR TREATY WITH ISRAEL
Event: The EU establishes its relationship with Israel and many other countries on the basis of a 7-year program called the European Neighborhood and Partnership Instrument. This confirms the European Neighborhood Policy (ENP) for seven years. Javier Solana and Chris Patten initially conceived of the European Neighborhood Policy in a letter to the European Commission in 2002. This framework started in 2007-2013, and is cyclically renewed every seven years, corresponding to the EU's budget. 
Significance: The Bible states that the Antichrist will make a treaty with Israel (and perhaps many other nations), for a period of seven years. Commentators are virtually unanimous that one "seven" represents seven years. Furthermore, many scholars have expected this to be a contract guaranteeing protection to Israel. It is likely that the Antichrist will use the ENP framework when he makes his final seven year contract with Israel.

****Solana "Retires" Politics for A Few Years***** 
2010 - "WORLD GOVERNMENT"
Event: Solana gives a speech at ESADE business school, explicitly calling for "world government." He routinely writes articles to this day, in which he calls for the improvement of "global governance."
 
Significance: Solana has been a long time supporter of "global governance" structures, as well as even going so far as to call for a "world government." The Bible predicts that, at the height of his rule, the Antichrist will have authority over every person on earth. Hence, many end times movies depict the Antichrist as the leader of a global government.

2012 - A DIVIDED KINGDOM
Event: The European Sovereign Debt Crisis threatens the very existence of the Euro, with many financial analysts fearing a total breakup of the eurozone, and the EU as well. 
Significance:  The Bible predicts that the end times Roman empire will be a "divided kingdom." The EU is well known for being very divided and inefficient in its decision making processes. The Eurozone Crisis (2009-2013) and the UK's referendum to leave the bloc in 2016 all show how badly the EU is marred by division.  
Just as you saw that the feet and toes were partly of baked clay and partly of iron, so this will be a divided kingdom; yet it will have some of the strength of iron in it, even as you saw iron mixed with clay. (Daniel 2:41; NIV, emphasis added) 

****Solana Begins to Make a Surprise Comeback****

JUN. 2016 - SOLANA ADVISES EU PARLIAMENT
Event: Solana was asked by the European Parliament to draft a very large research paper for them, advising them on how to construct an EU military union. He then presented his findings to the European Parliament defense committee on 06/16/16. 
Significance: Much of his research paper for Parliament was based on his March 2015 pamphlet, where he and many other experts called for a "European Defence Union." Solana was so passionate about the plan that he went on tour through various European capital cities, trying to convince people of these ideas. This is significant, because the Bible describes the end-time Antichrist as a military conqueror. (Daniel 11:36-11:45)

JUN. 2017 - EUROPEAN DEFENCE FUND (666)
Event: The EU launches a joint military fund with two sections. The first section is a 7-year military research program. The second section enables member countries to get group discounts on weapons and vehicles. This EU initiative is mean to encourage member nations to kick-start defense spending.

Significance: The Bible says the Antichrist honors a "god of fortresses" with "precious stones and costly gifts." Many theologians see this as a metaphor for military strength. More specifically, "fortresses" are better at defending than attacking, so his god is not just military power, but specifically military defense. He honors this god with money. Therefore, the Antichrist will be very keen on defense spending. In an opinion piece, Solana expressed dismay that the European Defence Fund did not go far enough.

"He shall pay no attention to the gods of his fathers, or to the one beloved by women. He shall not pay attention to any other god, for he shall magnify himself above all. He shall honor the god of fortresses instead of these. A god whom his fathers did not know he shall honor with gold and silver, with precious stones and costly gifts." -Daniel 11:37-38; ESV
